The idea to create the Rusty Pipes was born in the Spring of 1997 by Adam Biegeleisen, Elyse Shapiro, and Sam Beroz, then-members of the Rensselyrics, formerly the only a cappella group at RPI. It had become obvious that the demand for performance groups, particularly a cappella groups of different types and styles, was increasing.

The Rusty Pipes started up in mid-September, 1997, with the intention of making great music, putting on good shows, and having fun. Since then, the Pipes have rapidly progressed through their days of infancy, quickly diving into performances from opening for the professional, Boston-based Five 'O Clock Shadow, to travelling to sing with a number of other collegiate groups throughout New York, Pennsylvania, and New England, to ending our first semester with a week-long tour of high schools. In our first year, The Rusty Pipes had the opportunity to participate in the National Competition of Collegiate A Cappella (NCCA), where we managed to rise above our six peers to earn the title of Regional Champion.

The Rusty Pipes is a group of 14 men and women who love to sing cool songs a cappella and who love to perform for excited audiences everywhere! Keep an eye out for us, because we may be new, but we're here to stay, and we're looking forward to performing for (or with) you!
